RHONE VALLEY
Gastronomy
Take a large assortment of rural products, fruits of a rich
ground and varied climes, add the talent and know how of the "Chefs" and "Mères";
heirs to the prestigious Brillat Savarin, and you will obtain
a cuisine that combines simplicity and refinement. From the
simple inn to the gastronomie restaurant or the typical Lyons
bistrot named `bouchon"; euerything has been conceived
to delight the gourmets ; Lyons deserves the designation of "world
capital for gastronomy', and the Ain region its reputation
of having most of the high rated restaurants in France.
Wines
The Beaujolais (North Lyons) boasts 9 great uintages : Brouilly,
Côte de Brouilly, Chenas, Chirouble, Fleurie, Julienas,
Morgon, Moulin à cent, and Saint Amour. Nevertheless,
the vines under the "Beaujolais Village" appellation
are worth being quoted.
The
Côtes du Rhône stretch over 200 km south of
Lyons and over both Banks of the stream. Amongst the great
vintages we may list the Côte Rôtie (red vine),
the Condrieu and the Chateau Grillet (white vines) ; further
down south the Hermitage, the Crozes Hermitage, the Comas,
the Saint Joseph and the champagnized vine of Saint Péray.
Let us note the Tavel and the Chateauneuf duPape in the Gard
and the Vaucluse as well as the "appellations d'origine
contrôlée (label guaranteeing the quality of vine)
for the Côtes du Rhône.Any further information

THE WONDERS OF THE
CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC
ENVIRONMENT
By walking across thé Rhone valley you will discover
thé signs of multiple cultural shifts that followed
this way into Europe.The gallo Roman vestiges
In Lyons, roman theaters and odeons are overhung by thé archaeological
museum, thé modem architecture of which highlights thé mosaics,
epitaphs, inscriptions and différent objects from Roman
times.The Great Temple, thé Augustus and Livia Temple, thé Amphitheatre
Pyramid, and thé thermal battis are to be visited in
Vienne (25 km south Lyons) and on thé right bank of
thé Rhône, thé Saint Romain en Gal area
presents a roman town with villas, markets and pottery depots
on its excavation site.
Ancient villages and Aeras
The Rhone Valley conceals many ancient village pleasure to
stroll. PEROUGES is thé most renowned village but others
that are less famous are as beautiful : Villages des Pierres
Dorées (Rhône), Cervières and Pommà area
of Charlieu (Loire) and thé magnificent Proc thé Drôme
and Ardèche.
